24: alt-J – Dissolve Me

Yesterday, I listened to MGMT‘s Song Exploder episode and started thinking about charming oddballs who somehow made music into a career. Sure, MGMT themselves have fallen a bit off the rails (though one could argue that rails never existed in their dimension), yet they brought me back to one three-pointed place.

My highlight of the eclectic, conveniently a year out from their largest headline show to date, may well be alt-J. Naming themselves for a ∆ keyboard shortcut, originally writing songs about films as Films, and sampling Miley Cyrus to make fans fear toxic second album syndrome may hint at some obscure, inaccessible chaos, yet ‘Dissolve Me’ depicts an intricate and joyous memory about…something that few others could narrate with such beauty.
