25: Jai Paul – BTSTU

“I know I’ve been gone a long time, but I’m back and I want what is mine,” sang Jai Paul in 2011 as ‘BTSTU’ became a sensation. The problem is he hasn’t really come back since. 2012 hailed ‘Jasmine’ and the whole Bandcamp ‘album’ demo nonsense of 2013 was exhilarating for 36 hours and all; both, of course, similarly bloody excellent). If 2016 were to only bring one new album from this point forward and that album was an officially sanctioned and complete release of Jai Paul’s, it’s a sacrifice I’d likely be willing to make on behalf of humanity. Mercifully, such a hypothetical fiasco is absurd, because we all know Jai is, in fact, a periodic cicada too busy out-eluding Bigfoot to actually bless our ears with more of his magic.
