28: Disclosure feat. Lorde – Magnets (VIP)

By being brilliant at the first attempt, Disclosure forged themselves a pickle with LP2, and where Settle appeared to reinvent the wheel, Caracal seemed to simply swap out the tyres. Although outlets like Thump preferred to blame listeners for finding it underwhelming, its eased tempos and lavish repetition were far from enthralling when strung together. However, their own edit of ‘Magnets’, featuring the inimitable Lorde, feels  somewhat more at ease with itself, verging on ‘January’ of their debut with an added hastening to Lorde’s performance that reinforces the thematic impulsiveness upon which the original, in spite of its lyrics, wilted.
