33: Bloc Party – Banquet

Following the release of Hymns last week and ahead of their show in Southampton, I spoke with Russell Lissack and Louise Bartle of Bloc Party about the regeneration of the band, their plans for yet more new music, and how the new record came to be. You can listen to the interview in full on the Surge Radio website. The impetus and bravado for which Bloc Party is renowned – two things absent from Hymns – were on full display come the show itself, with cuts from the new LP interspersing the rowdy likes of ‘So He Begins To Lie’, ‘Song For Clay (Disappear Here)’, and Silent Alarm favourite ‘Banquet’. With a permanent drummer and bassist once again around for the writing process, new material of that ilk is surely near.
