I adore Coldplay. Through their millenium of stratospheric success, they appear to have remained perfectly affable gentlemen and continue to produce music, however unadventurous and even sterile, befitting of the pleasant personae. Latest LP A Head Full Of Dreams has, in some respects, been heard before as 2011’s Mylo Xyloto – an experiment for the band in throwing assorted colours around and making something vibrant and messing around with touches of the dancey – and ‘Hymn For The Weekend’, featuring in minor parts Beyoncé and Avicii, should not work in any way. Drunk and high, in fact, is what you’d need to be to think that a Coldplay concoction on a foundation of clubbish hedonism with that recipe would work. And, somehow, I’m still sipping.
