38: Mat Zo – Soul Food

As at home with throbbing trance as destructive drum and bass, Mat Zo is one of the few electronic artists who will command my attention without fail on every release. Largely, that’s thanks to his 2013 debut LP Damage Control, which drew listeners in with collaborations with Chuck D and Porter Robinson and left us yearning for more, quite literally, with incredible, dreamy snippets of tracks yet to form. That’s a trend he seems set to continue with follow-up Self Assemble, and lead single (and free download) ‘Soul Food’ touches on the disco house of intermediary singles ‘Oldskool Trip’ and The Knocks-featuring ‘Get Down 2 Get Up’ with touches of his grittier side thrown in for good measure.
