42: Jack Garratt – Fire

Each year, we get a new pop-type artist signed to Universal who collects all the industry accolades for the year’s apparent breakout star choosing to release a debut album in the spring-ish. This year, it’s the marvellously-bearded Jack Garratt, who blends his multi-instrumental talents with often dark electronic sounds. ‘Fire,’ coming a week ahead of LP Phase, may sound mildly chaotic on the first few listens, yet its warmth and extensively-varied dynamics soon escalate to something enjoyable and raw.
