69: Miike Snow feat. Charli XCX – For U

Between the fruitious Vroom Vroom EP with SOPHIE, the splendid ‘Hand In The Fire’ with Mr Oizo, and the chopped up vocal garnish all over Madeon‘s delightful ‘OK,’ Charli XCX seems to be doing all the right things of late. This time, she’s the female voice guest on a Miike Snow album, in place of Lykke Li. Thankfully, the result bears no similarities to the dreary ‘Black Tin Box,’ preferring all the oddball cornerstones that drew me in so long ago. With Andrew Wyatt gibbering two-line verses before lying in front of a wall and quirky instrumentation firing from the word go, its eventual calming and Charli’s, well, Charliness makes ‘For U’ my pick of iii, beyond its preceding singles ‘Heart Is Full‘ and ‘Genghis Khan.’
