Martin Solveig‘s Smash never officially made it to UK shores, even though three of its singles reached the top 50, and this was a mighty shame. Since, he’s reinvented himself with an amusing moustache as a purveyor of catchy future house. This doesn’t ooze the same charm, but it certainly is intoxicating.
Anyway, today’s pick is my favourite of the Smash era with Madeon‘s slick remix. Shortly after his ‘Pop Culture’ mashup exploded everywhere with its Launchpad wizardry, I became infatuated. Singles trickled through (as did a wondrous show at Coalition in Brighton in which I was, for some reason, squashed at the front wearing a wooly jumper) until the majestic album Adventure arrived close to one year ago. This edit of ‘The Night Out’ catalysed my obsession with his music, sustaining the French flame dans moi when it seemed like Daft Punk was a thing of the past.
