82: Hailee Steinfeld – Love Myself

Over the weekend, I went back to my old school to sing in a performance of Fauré’s Requiem and conversation, naturally, turned to Selena Gomez‘s latest single ‘Hands To Myself,’ which I found one of the more memorable tracks from Revival for its whispering, not for its quality. My notes for a review that never quite materialised described it as “a potential anthem that overt fragility is hiding away.” Keeping the whole undercurrent of semi-amorous stimulation whilst actually climaxing into an incredible pop moment is this debut single from Hailee Steinfeld, which perfectly nails the innocence of a typical self-esteem boosting warble with the cheeky smirk that Selena’s record, shrouded in breathy intimacy and A$AP Rocky, failed to exhibit.
