86: Big Wild feat. Tove Styrke – Aftergold

Superfluous vocal additions to electronic tracks several months after the initial release yet suspiciously close to a time where some label executive probably thinks it could make the instrumental into a commercial hit are nothing new. Big Wild‘s ‘Aftergold’ was originally released almost a year ago by Foreign Family Collective, and I remain unconvinced after a few listens as to whether Tove Styrke, Sweden’s other quite-good-at-pop Tove (who has herself been dragged on by Years & Years for a belated rerelease quite recently), actually improves it at all. The new edit trades charismatic vocal chops for musings on making it rain and whether money and gem-shaped success is all it’s cracked up to be. I wonder if those lyrics crossed the path of anyone at Ministry of Sound.
