91: Arty – Patriots

Self Assemble, the sophomore record from Mat Zo which I have almost just reviewed over on The Edge, has had me a bit nostalgic for the days when he and the Anjunabeats crew were churning out a magical blend of progressive house and trance that actually gave me some kind of understanding of why trance is, less metaphorically than most other genres, pseudo-religious. Well, when I say crew, I mostly mean him and Arty, who has spent the last couple of years slightly popifying and not maintaining the euphoric magic of tracks like ‘Synapse Dynamics,’ ‘Mozart,’ and ‘Must Be The Love.’ Thankfully, everything’s coming back together at once, as Arty’s back with a new Anjunabeats single – a retrospectively obvious occurrence after his ‘Kate’ rerelease in December – that brings us back to 2012 all over again.
