104: Goldwash – Separate

With each release, Goldwash becomes slightly less mysterious and slightly more assured. Yes, the existential funk tag attached to fourth release ‘Separate’ is still a bit of a baffling way to refer to certainly funky electronica with, in this case, a side of panpipes and twanging guitar, but Gabe Acheson’s latest contains a steady chill that Disclosure‘s Caracal couldn’t quite manage. His vocals too are rather good, fitting nicely atop the production, which is far more streamlined than the likes of ‘But U Won’t,’ maintaining his 100% record of sounding at times like an unchaotic Jack Garratt with a stronger set of experimental sound stuff going on beneath.
