In the aftermath of Saturday’s annual Surge Awards, Katie Duke and I travelled into previously unknown lands of Southampton to chat to Whitecliff, a Liverpudlian quintet signed to a Libertine‘s label. Olli Nagy and Jonny Ball from the band can be heard on tonight’s Surge Music Show at 9pm BST on surgeradio.co.uk discussing the Haitian roots of their name, their German connections, and plans after their 13-date debut headline tour of the UK comes to its conclusion. For now, here’s new track ‘Five Minutes,’ which began as a bit of a ballad before being shelved and transformed into something I hesitate to call Neon Trees-ish but, with Nagy’s theatrical vocal and the pleasantly upbeat guitars, certainly a bit like ‘Animal’ without the garish glean of keyboards in the way.
