The wonky pop quirks of the late 00s coincided extremely conveniently with my discovery of music on the radio, online, and in many other forms more complex than CD:UK‘s chart rundowns. One of its highlights, which I largely recall from a particular segment on 4Music, was Frankmusik, whose track ‘Better Off As Two’ was featured as a future hit/single of the week thing. With a frantic synthpop backing and gentle writhing in the video, it intrigued me. A lot.
Complete Me, his debut, ended up (unsurprisingly) a thoroughly enjoyable bit of pop, and unfortunately one that I had forgotten until last Friday when I happened to stumble into the Surge studio to hear his later Far East Movement collaboration playing on the jukebox. Fortunately, Complete Me sounds just as good today as it ever did, and opener ‘In Step’ is a wonderful introductory slice that, until today, I never knew made it to video form.
